Welcome to TESSA

TESSA is a network of teachers and teacher educators working alongside The Open University, UK, to improve the quality of classroom practice and access to teacher education resources across sub-Saharan Africa. It does this through offering a range of Open Educational Resources (OER) in four languages to support school-based teacher education: English, French, Swahili (Tanzania) and Arabic (Sudan).

What is available....

Subject resources

Activities, case studies and resources for teachers to use in their classrooms with their students. The resources cover the primary curriculum (literacy, numeracy, science, life skills and social studies and the arts), as well as secondary science.

Audio resources

A set of short audio clips demonstrating a range of teaching approaches in African primary school classrooms.

Key resources

Resources that provide practical advice about a range of teaching approaches. They are suitable for primary and secondary teachers, and for teacher educators designing learning experiences for pre-service or in-service teachers.

These provide support for teachers and teacher educators. They include resources to support teachers working with pupils, teacher educators working with teachers, teaching practice supervisors and teacher educators working with secondary science teachers.

Teaching packs

Each pack contains a set of primary subject resources, grouped according to whether they are most appropriate for the lower, middle or upper primary school.
