Getting Started with TESSA The TESSA community, and the TESSA materials, have been created by teachers and teacher educators working in a variety of contexts. An expert team has prepared handbooks suggesting some of the ways in which the TESSA community and materials can be used to plan and implement teacher education and training programmes, courses and activities. Handbook for teachers: 'Working with pupils' is a short handbook for teachers explaining how to use TESSA materials in your classroom. Download and print the pdf version or download and adapt the word document for your own school or institution. Handbook for teacher educators: 'Working with teachers ' is designed to support teacher educators to use TESSA materials in courses and programmes. It is for lecturers, advisers, professional development leaders, policy makers and other colleagues working in teacher education. 'Working with teachers' includes the handbook for teachers, 'working with pupils'. The appendices give examples from institutions across Africa. Getting Started Leaflet TESSA materials The TESSA website provides a large number of materials to support teachers’ learning. The materials contain activities for teachers to undertake in their classrooms as well as case studies and supporting resources. Materials are organised in five subject areas: Literacy Numeracy Science Social Studies and the Arts Life Skills. Each subject area contains 15 sections or study units organised in 3 modules. To find the materials click on a country or on the Pan-African version on the TESSA homepage. • For more information about the resources and how to use them go to Site help • For assistance in finding your way around the TESSA website see Site Tour • Use the Site Map to see a list of all the sections or study units If you work in a Teacher Training Institution we suggest you look at the Teacher Educator Guidance for further advice and suggestions on the TESSA approach and using the TESSA materials. Audio Resources The TESSA website also contains a number of audio files to support teacher development. Click on ‘Audio Resources’ to find, listen to and download the clips. Further TESSA materials, contributed by the TESSA community, can be found under TESSA Share
The TESSA community The TESSA website offers a number of different forums for exchanging ideas, asking advice and making contacts. Each country area has a forum and there are also pan-Africa Forums in English and French. You do not need to register with TESSA to read the messages in the Forums. However, if you would like to post a message in one of the forums, there is a simple registration process you can follow. Please click on ‘Log in’ or ‘Register’ The founding members of the TESSA community are listed in About TESSA. To find out how they are using the TESSA materials see TESSA in Use.
